Uganda

Alice Sumbatala

Associate Consultant

Alice is an Associate Consultant with over a decade of experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, and data management across East Africa. She holds a Master’s in Human Rights and a BA in Social Sciences from Makerere University. Alice brings strong technical expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research, with proven leadership in large-scale surveys, impact evaluations, tool development, data analysis, and strategic dissemination of findings. She is proficient in Stata, NVIVO, Python, SurveyCTO, ODK, and KoboCollect. Renowned for her ability to lead diverse teams, she fosters ethical field practices and builds research capacity. Alice has successfully managed over 30 projects with global institutions including the World Bank, IFAD, UNFPA, FCDO, and Oxford University. She contributes to organizational growth through proposal development, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement. Passionate about development impact, she leverages research to advance the Sustainable Development Goals through evidence-based programming and actionable insights.

KENYA

Alvin Igobwa

Associate Consultant

Alvin Igobwa Mugwe is an accomplished Data Scientist and Business Intelligence Analyst who designs and delivers data-driven solutions that sharpen decision-making, boost operational efficiency, and unlock new business insights. Fluent in Python, R, SQL, and Google Earth Engine—and equally at home with GIS platforms—he automates data pipelines, builds interactive dashboards, and deploys scalable machine-learning models that serve stakeholders across agriculture, environmental science, and finance. His portfolio includes a Swahili-language Generative-AI RAG model that gives Kenyan farmers location-specific crop advice; a data warehouse that cut reporting time by 40 percent; a flood-risk simulator for 100-year events; and the Kenya Carbon Emissions Reduction Tool for policymakers. He has published peer-reviewed research on climate change, food security, and childhood malnutrition, and has crafted credit-scoring algorithms that merge climate, regional, and biodiversity signals for agro-lenders. A collaborative leader and clear communicator, he has partnered with UNICEF, Mozilla Foundation, and Imperial College London, while also teaching Python and machine learning to the next generation of analysts.

Artee Gungah

Senior Consultant

Artee began her career with EDI in 2010 following a successful internship and has since built a strong track record managing large-scale, complex projects across various sectors including education, WASH, health, agriculture, and early childhood development (ECD). She currently acts as a Senior Consultant. Artee’s expertise lies in fieldwork management, troubleshooting, and data quality assurance. She is highly proficient in programming complex CAPI survey tools in both English and French, with over 100 questionnaires developed to date. Her skills extend to desk-testing, piloting, and providing technical support during critical project stages, ensuring smooth implementation and high-quality data collection. In addition to her technical and fieldwork capabilities, Artee delivers customised CAPI training, both in-person and remotely, and contributes to business development. Artee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology and an MBA with Distinction from Buckinghamshire New University, UK. She has gained professional experience across Mauritius, the UK, Belgium, and Bangladesh, and is fluent in English, French, Hindi, and Creole.

Aurélie Gerbier

Consultant

Aurélie Gerbier joined EDI Global’s UK Team in September 2022. At EDI Global, she is involved in designing and implementing large-scale surveys. Prior to joining EDI Global, she worked as a data and impact analyst for a UK NGO. She previously worked at the Ministry of Finance in Haiti, collaborating with development finance institutions on Haiti’s recent economic governance reform. Aurélie holds an MSc in Impact Evaluation for International Development (University of East Anglia) and an MA in Government and Public Management (University of Chile). Her research interests span the fields of women’s economic empowerment, intimate partner violence, and education. Aurélie is fluent in Haitian creole, French, English and Spanish.

Bence Kocsis

Senior Consultant

Bence brings over seven years of experience in development research and technical leadership. He has led and supported projects across East Africa and India in areas such as early childhood development, livelihoods, gender, social protection, and youth. He provides technical oversight, capacity-building support, and ensures rigorous quality assurance across teams. His recent work includes leading the integration of geospatial methods in the IMAGE Tanzania Varietal Monitoring Survey and playing a key role in a 3,600-household RCT with Stockholm University evaluating the impact of cash transfers on ECD outcomes. He has collaborated with a wide range of partners, including the Gates Foundation, the World Bank, FCDO and academic institutions such as the Norwegian School of Economics. Bence holds an MPhil in Education and International Development from the University of Cambridge and a BA (Hons) in Economics and Business from University College London.

Tanzania

Chobaliko Saddy

Group Accounting Manager

Chobaliko Saddy is a seasoned Certified Public Accountant (CPA-T) with over a decade of experience in accounting, financial management, budgeting, tax compliance, and auditing. He currently serves as Group Accounting Manager at EDI Global (Tanzania) Limited, where assist the Global Comptroller to oversee multi-entity financial operations, revenue recognition, financial reporting, intercompany reconciliations, statutory audits, risk mitigation, and cross-border compliance. With a strong foundation in accounting principles and tax legislation, he began his career with EDI Global as an Intern and rose through the ranks due to his technical proficiency, analytical rigor, and commitment to continuous improvement. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Accounting and Finance from Mzumbe University and is a Certified Public Accountant accredited by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) in Tanzania. Fluent in both English and Kiswahili, he is also proficient in financial software such as QuickBooks and has advanced skills in Microsoft Office. He is passionate about financial integrity, continuous improvement, and empowering teams to achieve excellence in financial stewardship.

Chris Boyd

Managing Director

Chris Boyd is the Managing Director of EDI Global and is based in Nairobi, Kenya where he oversees the company’s operations. Chris is an experienced business leader with over 20 years’ experience in research and evaluation. Prior to joining EDI Global, Chris held the position of Director, Results and Organisational Performance at the aid-for-trade organisation TradeMark Africa (TMA) where he led the results and research function across 12 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. Before TMA, Chris played a key role in the growth and development of Upper Quartile LLP before its acquisition by WYG International, and subsequently led the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) division of WYG. Chris has undertaken research and evaluation work in over 20 countries including Afghanistan, Nigeria and Ghana, with considerable experience gained in gathering high-quality data and evidence in East Africa, particularly Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.

Dan Bunter

Senior Consultant

Dan joined EDI Global in December 2019, after completing his master’s degree in Impact Evaluation for International Development at the University of East Anglia. Dan leads the implementation of large-scale data collection projects in East Africa, from project conception to data delivery. He has recently led the data collection for an impact evaluation of the Waache Wasome (‘Let Them Learn’) project in Tanzania, partnering with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago. Dan previously worked as an impact consultant for an education NGO in Eastern Sri Lanka where he oversaw the creation of a data-led child development programme in target preschools.

Edgar Mshumbusi

Accountant

Edgar started working with EDI Global in 2019 on various field projects for clients including Gatsby Africa and Twaweza as an Interviewer, where he conducted household listings, interviews, and respondent informed consent collection. In 2022, he joined the Finance Team as a Junior Accounts Assistant, responsible for payments processing, posting, and maintaining financial records. Currently, Edgar holds the position of Accountant, where he oversees accounting operations across related companies in Tanzania, Kenya, the UK, and Mathematica. His responsibilities include managing accounts payable and receivable, conducting financial training for staff, handling invoicing, audits and requests for information, and performing a wide range of finance-related tasks across the group. Edgar holds a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from the Institute of Finance Management (IFM), earned in 2015. His academic background equipped him with skills in accounting, banking and financial procedures, organizational and business management, and managerial finance.

Godlaid Mwenge

Associate Consultant

Mwenge David Godlaid an Associate Consultant at EDI Global with more than 16 years of survey experience. Throughout his career since he joins in 2008, he has served in various key roles, including Project Field Coordinator, Fieldwork Supervisor, and Interviewer, contributing to more than 20 large-scale surveys across Tanzania and Uganda. He has worked with a diverse range of high-profile clients, including: The World Bank, Twaweza, Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF), ICAP at Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Millennium Challenge Corporation, Georgetown University (RISE Survey), CIMMYT (in both Uganda and Tanzania), Stockholm University (Lab-in-the-Field research). In his current role as Associate Consultant, Mwenge is responsible for: Coordinating all aspects of survey fieldwork, Planning and designing field operations, preparing internal project budgets, Recruiting and training field staff (enumerators and supervisors), Monitoring imprest and field expenditures, Piloting and testing survey instruments. Mwenge is particularly skilled in managing complex field logistics, ensuring data quality, and adapting survey tools to local contexts. His deep understanding of field dynamics and his commitment to rigorous research standards make him a valuable asset to any data-driven project.

Julius Josephat

Associate Consultant

Julius joined EDI Global in 2014 as an Interviewer after completing his Bachelor’s degree in Production and Operations Management from Mzumbe University, Tanzania. Over the years, he has consistently demonstrated his value to the organization through dedication, leadership, and technical expertise. He progressed through various roles, including Research Supervisor and Data Processing Officer, and was promoted to Project Coordinator in 2017. In 2024, Julius was further promoted to Principal Coordinator, where he successfully led multiple projects as both Project Coordinator and Project Manager. He currently serves as an Associate Consultant, a role in which he is engaged throughout the entire project lifecycle. His responsibilities include project planning and coordination, overseeing implementation, and ensuring high-quality delivery across diverse assignments, Conducting trainings for project teams, Organizing and overseeing project logistics across East Africa, Supporting business development efforts, including developing financial quotes and proposals and Producing comprehensive project completion reports

Kelvin Bett

Associate Consultant

Kelvin Bett is a Data Scientist and Business Intelligence Specialist with over five years of experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data-driven decision support across Africa and the UK. He has led the design and implementation of large-scale BI and Data Science solutions spanning agriculture, healthcare, and finance. His portfolio includes machine learning–based weather index insurance products, computer vision models for crop disease detection, and predictive analytics dashboards for real-time insights.Kelvin holds an MSc in Data Science from Lancaster University (UK) and a BSc in Informatics and Computer Science from Strathmore University (Kenya). His research focuses on Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Graphs, including redundancy detection using Large Language Models. A Big Data practitioner and experienced instructor, he teaches Python, Machine Learning, and Big Data Processing, mentoring the next generation of data professionals

Lila Mkunda

Accountant

Lila is a skilled Accountant with over 10 years of professional experience in Financial Management, Accounting, and Reporting. He has worked with reputable organizations including MVIWATA, BBC Media Action, and Maersk Line, where he gained extensive expertise in budgeting, auditing, compliance, and financial analysis. Throughout his career, Lila has demonstrated strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to implement effective financial controls that support organizational growth and sustainability. He is proficient in managing both Corporate and NGO Financial operations, ensuring transparency and adherence to International Accounting standards. His background in working with diverse sectors ranging from International Shipping and Logistics to Media and Non-Profit Organizations has equipped him with a unique ability to adapt and deliver results in dynamic environments. He is committed to excellence, accountability, and continuous professional growth in the field of Finance and Accounting.

Luz Azlor del Valle

Associate Director

Luz Azlor del Valle is a mixed-methods researcher with over seven years of experience in international development. She manages a team within EDI Global’s project delivery division and plays a key role in both implementation and business development. Luz has led evaluations and large-scale data collection for clients including the Gates Foundation, World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Resourced, Power of Nutrition, and Results for Development, across themes such as health systems, agriculture, private sector development, and gender. Before joining EDI Global in 2019, Luz spent over a year in Sierra Leone supporting RCTs on health worker incentives in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. She has also held research roles at Aarhus University and UNICEF in Denmark. Luz holds a Master’s in International Economic Consulting from Aarhus University and is fluent in English and Spanish.

Marie Braye

Associate Director

Marie joined EDI Global in 2016 after completing a Master’s in International Development Economics at the University of Auvergne and the Centre for Studies and Research on International Development (CERDI). Since then, she has led several large-scale impact evaluations for partners including Georgetown University, Stockholm University, the World Bank, Promundo, ICAP at Columbia University, and UNICEF. Her research interests include gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, intimate partner violence, and early childhood development. Prior to joining EDI Global, Marie worked as a project officer at CEEA, a French state agency supporting local development and enterprise networks. She is fluent in English and French.

Matt Wiseman

Director Project Delivery

Matt Wiseman join EDI Global in 2005 and has been playing a leading role in defining and implementing our company strategy ever since. Matt gained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath and began his career supporting education activities in Tanzania in 2001. He has over two decades of international development experience, including a track record in planning and managing dozens of large research and data collection projects. He also has extensive consultancy experience in areas of grants management, HR management and project evaluation. Matt has held a number of roles within EDI and is now our Project Delivery Unit. The PD unit is responsible for ensuring that all projects are implemented in a timely and efficient manner and that all activities are delivered to the highest possible quality.

Norah Nyaboke

Senior Business Development Associate

Norah is an international development professional with a strong track record in business development and project management, driving strategic growth and high-impact partnerships across diverse sectors. She leads and supports initiatives in client engagement, proposal development and strategic communications, while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and gathering and analyzing market intelligence to identify and pursue new business opportunties. She holds a Master of Business Administration from United States International University of Africa.

Tanzania

Patrick Minja

Consulant

Patrick Minja is an accomplished project manager and data specialist with over nine years of experience leading the implementation of large-scale research and evaluation studies across East Africa. Currently at EDI Global, Patrick oversees the end-to-end delivery of complex surveys managing everything from project inception and fieldwork coordination to data quality assurance and final dataset submission.

Patrick has played a central role in more than 13 major evaluations, including randomized controlled trials, impact assessments, and intervention studies for clients such as UNICEF, IFPRI, FCDO, and leading universities. His work spans multiple sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and livelihoods, and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and international development discourse.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Moshi Co-operative University and brings deep expertise in CAPI tool programming, survey design, and advanced data analysis using tools such as Stata, Python, and Excel. Patrick has extensive hands-on experience with data collection platforms including SurveyCTO and Survey Solutions, and is certified in Human Research Protection and research ethics.

Recognized for his attention to detail, technical proficiency, and strong leadership, Patrick has successfully led field teams, built robust data management systems, and delivered high-quality data for projects conducted across Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda—with additional remote oversight in countries including Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh.

Prakhar Saxena

Consultant

Prakhar holds an MSc in Development Economics from the University of Clermont Auvergne and is trained in econometrics, statistical inference, quantitative research methods, microeconomics, impact evaluation, and survey methodology. He has led large-scale surveys and field experiments across East Africa and India, focusing on early childhood development, agriculture, and trade evaluations. His work at EDI Global involves project management , client communication, sampling design, fieldwork oversight, and data analysis using tools like Stata and SurveyCTO. He has also contributed to research at Inclusion Economics India Centre, addressing women’s economic empowerment, public sector technology use, and flood early warning systems. In addition to his research, Prakhar has worked with not-for-profits such as Teach For India to expand access to quality education. He is skilled in project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication, and is highly self-motivated to deliver impactful, evidence-based insights. He is committed to driving inclusive development through rigorous economic research.

Ralala Ombaka

Associate Consultant

Ralala is a research professional with over seven years of experience managing and supporting complex research initiatives across Africa’s emerging markets. She has worked with institutions such as the MCC, World Bank, WHO, and TMA. Fluent in both French and English, Ralala has successfully led multi-country teams, ensuring high data quality through advanced verification techniques. She has delivered high-impact MERL projects in emerging markets in Africa, gaining experience in 18 African countries. Ralala thematic expertise includes trade, agriculture, transportation, and financial inclusion. She holds an MSc in Statistical Science and a BSc in Statistics from Strathmore and JKUAT respectively. Ralala is passionate about using both quantitative and qualitative data to tell the story of emerging Africa, specifically in Intra and African International trade.

Respichius Mitti

Associate Director

Mitti has over 20 years’ of experience in academic and professional research and has played a leading role in the development of EDI Global’s Research Department since the company’s formation. He has extensive experience of the planning, implementation and management of large scale survey assignments across Tanzania and East Africa, Mozambique, Ethiopia and some of West Africa countries for clients that have included the MCC, The World Bank, UNICEF, the University of Oxford, University of Maryland, Stokholm University, SNV, TWAWEZA, TASAF, and the PO-RALG, NIH, FCDO, CAMFED, Social Impact. In his roles, he has responsibility for the day to day, smooth and successful running of the company’s operations, whilst implementing the East Africa company strategy.

Samuel Mburu

Senior Accountant

Samuel is a seasoned finance professional specializing in financial advisory, impact investments, and sustainable finance. With over 11 years of experience across consulting, manufacturing, and FMCG in East Africa and the Middle East, he has developed expertise in financial management, transaction advisory, and investment planning. His work spans project and corporate finance, resource mobilization, stakeholder engagement, business development, and financial accounting. Helping organizations invest wisely and create lasting value. Passionate about leveraging finance for impact, Samuel combines data-driven decision-making, risk management, and governance expertise to support businesses and investors in achieving their financial and sustainability goals. He is committed to fostering resilient, responsible, and future-ready financial solutions. Sam holds an MBA in Finance, BCom in Finance from United States International University and KCA University respectively.
 

Tanzania

Saraphina Safari

Associate Consultant

Saraphina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Project Planning Management and Community Development. She first joined EDI Global in 2013 as a Research Officer and was later promoted to an Assistant Data Processing Officer and then a Data Processing Officer. Saraphina has worked with a wide range of clients including the World Bank, Twaweza, Overseas Development Institute, United Nations Children’s Fund, Gatsby Africa, and Georgetown University through which she has gained significant experience in research clearances and data processing with a variety of software. Her role includes electronic questionnaire configurations and testing, designing survey tools, translations, data quality control, as well as setting-up data flow and communication systems.

Sosthenes Alex

Associate Consultant

Sosthenes Alex is an accomplished Associate Consultant at EDI Global with over a decade of experience in field research and survey coordination. Since joining in 2011 as an Interviewer, he has advanced through several leadership roles, including Field Supervisor, Assistant Coordinator, Coordinator, and Senior Coordinator. He currently oversees key survey operations such as budgeting, logistics, training, and recruitment. Sosthenes has supported projects for clients including CHAI, TASAF, JICA, ICAP at Columbia University, UNICEF (Stawisha Maisha and Youth Livelihood – Ujana Salama), Georgetown University (RISE survey), George Washington University (The Connect Programme), CAMFED (measuring the Impact and Cost Effectiveness of CAMFED’s Livelihoods Programme),and Stockholm University—most notably the Kizazi Kijacho survey. He is recognized for his expertise across all survey phases and his strong commitment to data quality and operational excellence.

Verna Watson

Bookkeeper

Verna works in the UK office as a Bookkeeper, looking after the day-to-day financial posting into QuickBooks, covering accounts payable, sales ledger, banking and salaries. She has extensive experience in finance, having previously worked as an EMEA Financial Accountant for a large global software company preparing financial statements, and tax and VAT returns, in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic, South Africa and the UK. For 14 years she worked as the Financial Reporting Accountant for a large food manufacturing company in the UK, preparing monthly financial statements, annual statutory consolidated accounts, and tax and VAT returns.
