Alice is a Data Manager at EDI Global, based in Uganda. Alice holds a master’s degree in Human Rights and a bachelor of arts degree in Social Sciences, both from Makerere University in Kampala. Alice is highly experienced in project planning and management, concept and proposal development, data processing and validations using Stata, and using CAPI software. She has worked with a range of clients across East Africa, covering a vast array of topics, including policymaking, climate and environment, youth empowerment, and human rights. Alice is particularly interested in the use of research and development to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Artee began her career at EDI Global UK in 2010, starting with an internship with us. She currently works as a Senior Survey Analyst. She is an expert in programming and testing CAPI survey tools, conducting CAPI training, and providing high-level technical support to our research team and clients. Artee has also led multiple data collection projects, helping partners such as the World Bank, Cornell University oversee both small- and large-scale data collection efforts. Artee holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology and an MBA with distinction, both from Buckinghamshire New University, UK. She acquired work experience in Mauritius, the UK, Belgium and Bangladesh. Born and raised in Mauritius, Artee is fluent in English, French, Hindi and Creole.
Aurélie Gerbier joined EDI Global’s UK Research Team in September 2022. At EDI Global, she is involved in designing and implementing large-scale surveys. Prior to joining EDI Global, she worked as a data and impact analyst for a UK NGO. She previously worked at the Ministry of Finance in Haiti, collaborating with development finance institutions on Haiti’s recent economic governance reform. Aurélie holds an MSc in Impact Evaluation for International Development (University of East Anglia) and an MA in Government and Public Management (University of Chile). Her research interests span the fields of women’s economic empowerment, intimate partner violence, and education. Aurélie is fluent in Haitian creole, French, English and Spanish.
Bence joined EDI Global’s UK research team in March 2022. Since then, Bence has led multiple projects focused on early childhood development and livelihoods, helping partners such as Lively Minds Uganda, and researchers at Stockholm University and at the Norwegian School of Economics, to oversee both small- and large-scale data collection efforts for impact evaluations. He holds a master’s degree in Education and International Development from the University of Cambridge. Bence has previously worked as a Senior Associate at IDinsight in India, where he led several quantitative and qualitative studies in the areas of financial inclusion, livelihoods and behavioural nudges.
Benjamin is a Finance and Operations Coordinator at EDI Global. He joined EDI as an assistant data processing officer in March 2023 and transitioned to his current role in September 2023. He holds a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Nairobi and several professional qualifications and memberships in accounting and management. He supports Senior Management in various tasks, such as coordinating Project Reviews, preparing utilisation reports, tracking invoicing schedules, preparing contracts, advising on budget preparation, and supporting intercompany agreements. He also ensures that EDI Global runs smoothly in Kenya, handling taxation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and insurance. He has contributed to several projects at EDI Global, including for Generation Global and the Danish Refugee Council, showcasing his skills in data processing, survey tool testing, questionnaire translation, and account management.
Chobaliko holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Accounting and Finance from Mzumbe University, Tanzania. In 2016, Chobaliko was accredited by the Tanzania National Board of Accountants and Auditors as a Certified Public Accountant. Chobaliko originally joined EDI Global through an internship programme in 2012, in partial fulfilment of the requirement for the degree he was pursuing at Mzumbe University. Due to the excellent work ethic he demonstrated during his internship, Chobaliko joined EDI Global permanently as Finance Manager Assistant after he finished his studies in 2013. Chobaliko excels within EDI Global’s Finance Department and is a highly valued member of the team. He manages daily finance operations, company expenditure planning and monitoring, taxation processing and reporting, accounts payable management, invoicing and accounts receivable management, staff financial training and back-stopping, and company insurance processing.
Chris is the Managing Director of EDI Global and is based in Nairobi, Kenya, where he oversees the company’s operations. Chris is an experienced business leader with over 20 years’ experience in research and evaluation. Prior to joining EDI Global, Chris held the position of Director, Results and Organisational Performance at the aid-for-trade organisation TradeMark East Africa (TMEA), where he led the results and research function across 12 countries in eastern and southern Africa. Before his work for TMEA, Chris played a key role in the growth and development of Upper Quartile LLP, before its acquisition by WYG International, and subsequently led the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) division of WYG. Chris has undertaken research and evaluation work in over 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Nigeria and Ghana, and has gained considerable experience in gathering high-quality data and evidence in East Africa, particularly Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.
Dan joined EDI Global’s UK research team in December 2019, after completing his master’s degree in Impact Evaluation for International Development at the University of East Anglia, where his thesis explored the links between social capital and aspiration for preschool mothers in Eastern Sri Lanka. In his role, Dan leads the implementation of large-scale research and data collection projects in our core markets of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda for international clientele. Dan also plays a significant role in business development activities, including technical proposal writing, financial proposal development and client outreach.
Edgar started working with EDI Global in 2019 on various field projects, for clients including Gatsby Africa and Twaweza, as an Interviewer. In this role, he was involved in conducting household listing and interviews, and collecting respondents’ informed consent. In 2022 he joined the Finance Team as a Junior Accounts Assistant, where he is responsible for conducting payments and processing, posting, and maintaining financial records. Edgar holds a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from the Institute of Finance Management in Tanzania, through which he acquired skills in accounting, banking and financial procedures, organisational management, business management, and managerial finance.
Ellen joined EDI Global’s UK office in June 2020. As Business Development Manager she works across all aspects of EDI Global’s business development activities, including bid coordination and preparation, partner and client engagement, and communications. Ellen works in close collaboration with EDI Global’s country and technical teams to prepare high-quality proposals and grow the company’s project portfolio across Africa. Ellen holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham, where she focused on the intersection between public administration and international development.
Godlaid has over 12 years of survey experience with EDI Global. He has worked as a Project Field Coordinator, Fieldwork Supervisor, and interviewer on over 18 large-scale surveys in Tanzania for a range of clients, including the World Bank, Twaweza, Tanzania Social Action Fund, ICAP at Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. In his current position as Project Coordinator, his role includes coordinating survey activities like project field internal budgeting, planning and designing survey fieldwork, conducting enumerator and supervisor trainings, field staff recruitment, and imprest monitoring. In particular, Mwenge has substantial experience in project field coordination, managing and monitoring surveys, and piloting and testing questionnaires.
Hannah has over 20 years’ MERL experience, including the last 8 years that have been spent leading capacity assessment and institutional strengthening initiatives among government agencies and NGOs. She has MERL expertise in the development of conceptual frameworks (results framework, Theory of Change, etc.) and performance monitoring systems as well as corresponding operational plans to implement MERL activities. Her thematic expertise includes in governance, conflict management, peacebuilding and civil society strengthening. Hannah has supported MERL projects funded by donors including FCDO, USAID, World Bank, and UN agencies.
Julius joined EDI Global in 2014 as an Interviewer, after completing his bachelor’s degree in Production and Operations Management at Mzumbe University, Tanzania. Julius has proven to be a highly valued member of the team. He served as a Research Supervisor and Data Processing Officer before becoming Project Coordinator in 2017. In his current role he is involved throughout the duration of a project’s lifecycle and is responsible for conducting training, preparing internal project budgets, and organising project logistics.
Jyothsna joined EDI Global’s UK office in September 2023. As a Senior MEL Officer she leads the implementation of large-scale projects in East Africa. Jyothsna comes with more than six years of experience in undertaking monitoring and evaluation studies using mixed methods. She has experience of designing and institutionalising MEL systems, leading evaluation studies in skills development, agriculture, education, and water, sanitation and hygiene. Prior to coming to EDI, she worked with Sattva Consulting in India as an Engagement Manager. She holds an MSc in Impact Evaluation for International Development and a postgraduate diploma in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management Anand.
As a Research Manager, Luz currently leads a division of the research team, mentoring them and providing project management oversight to all their projects, being involved in all stages of the project cycle. She also plays a key role in business development activities. To date, Luz has led the design and implementation of several research projects and large-scale surveys in health, education and agriculture sectors in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Prior to joining EDI Global in 2019, Luz worked as a Research Assistant Universities and at UNICEF. She holds a Masters in International Economic Consulting from Aarhus University in Denmark and is fluent in English and Spanish.
As a Research Manager, Marie leads a division of EDI Global’s team in the running of socio-economic surveys and impact evaluation research projects. She provides technical support including managing and mentoring a team and oversee all their projects. She also leads the development of technical and financial proposals. Before managing a team, Marie led for over six years large-scale impact assessments in East Africa with international donors, foundations, research centres, universities and governments at EDI Global. She has a particular interest in health and gender topics research. Marie joined EDI Global in 2016 after completing her Masters in international development economics at University of Auvergne and Centre for Studies and Research on International Development.
Matt is Chief Operating Officer of EDI Global and is based in London. Since 2005, he has played a key leadership role in the business with specific responsibility for continually developing and improving company systems to support the company’s growth. His functional responsibilities include corporate compliance, IT, financial management, HR and contracting. Matt is a highly experienced leader with over two decades of international development experience, including a track record in planning and managing dozens of large research and data collection projects. Matt holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath and began his career international development supporting education activities in Tanzania in 2001.
Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from Moshi Co-operative University and joined EDI Global’s Data Processing team at the end of 2017 as an Assistant Data Processing Officer, having previously served as an Enumerator in the field. He has developed extensive skills working with different software for data collection and management, including SurveyCTO, Survey Solutions, Stata, and SQL. Patrick’s role includes questionnaire configurations and writing do-files, and his experience of working with data has enabled him to provide oversight and support to a wide range of EDI Global projects.
Prakhar, who holds a MSc in Development Economics from the University of Clermont Auvergne, is trained in econometrics, statistical inference, quantitative research methods, microeconomics, impact evaluation designs, and survey methods. His hands-on experience includes the successful implementation of surveys and field experiments in diverse regions of Africa and India. Additionally, Prakhar has undertaken projects aimed at social development through education, further expanding his impact. He has contributed to research at the Inclusion Economics India Centre, focusing on government officials’ technology engagement for effective governance, women’s economic empowerment, and an early flood warning system. In addition to his research work, he has provided quality education through not-for-profit organisations like Teach for India. He excels in stakeholder management, relationship building, organisation, and maintaining a high level of self-motivation to achieve objectives. He is committed to driving positive change through economic research. |
Rachel has nine years of development sector experience working across government, NGOs and research institutions. As a Research Manager, Rachel works closely with research team members, acting as a project director for part of the division’s research portfolio. She also shapes the design and implementation of more complex surveys and impact evaluations. Rachel is an advocate for evidence-based decision-making and has worked extensively with multi-lateral organisations, including managing data partnerships with over 35 development partners such as UNICEF, the World Bank and UNDP. Rachel holds a master’s degree in Impact Evaluation for International Development from the University of East Anglia and has worked in both West and East Africa.
Respichius has over 20 years’ experience in academic and professional research and has played a leading role in the development of EDI Global’s Research Department since the company’s formation. He has extensive experience of the planning, implementation and management of large-scale survey assignments across Tanzania and East Africa for clients that have included the Millennium Challenge Corporation, World Bank, UNICEF, the University of Oxford, SNV, TWAWEZA, Tanzania Social Action Fund, and the Government of Tanzania. He is responsible for the day to day, smooth and successful running of the company’s operations, while also implementing the East Africa company strategy.
Sarafina holds a bachelor’s degree in Project Planning Management and Community Development. She first joined EDI Global in 2013 as a Research Officer and was later promoted to Assistant Data Processing Officer and then Data Processing Officer. Sarafina has worked with a wide range of clients, including the World Bank, Twaweza, the Overseas Development Institute, UNICEF, Gatsby Africa, and Georgetown University, through which she has gained significant experience in research clearances and data processing using a variety of software. Her role includes electronic questionnaire configurations and testing, designing survey tools, translations, data quality control, as well as setting up data flow and communication systems.
Sosthenes is an Assistant Project Coordinator who joined EDI Global as an Interviewer in 2011. He was promoted to field Supervisor and Assistant Coordinator in 2014 and 2016. In his current position his role includes the coordination of survey activities, such as project field internal budgeting, field logistics, enumerator and supervisor trainings, and field staff recruitment. Sosthenes has been engaged in various projects for clients such as the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Tanzania Social Action Fund, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and ICAP at the University of Columbia. Sosthenes has also worked on numerous rounds of surveys, from baseline and endline to follow-up rounds.
Tamara serves as Director at EDI Global and Mathematica’s General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Before joining Mathematica, Barnes served as Associate General Counsel, Mergers and Acquisitions, for American Standard Companies, Inc., and as a corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions attorney at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP, and Baker & McKenzie in New York and London. She has spent a significant portion of her career working overseas on mergers, acquisitions, and finance matters. Barnes was awarded a postgraduate fellowship sponsored by the World Bank’s Corporate and Banking Law Reform Initiative in Moscow. She received her juris doctorate in 1993 from the Sturm School of Law at the University of Denver, with honours. She was also an editor of the University of Denver Journal of International Law and Policy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History, with honours, from the University of Colorado.
Verna works in the UK office as a Bookkeeper, looking after the day-to-day financial posting into QuickBooks, covering accounts payable, sales ledger, banking and salaries. She has extensive experience in finance, having previously worked as an EMEA Financial Accountant for a large global software company preparing financial statements, and tax and VAT returns, in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic, South Africa and the UK. For 14 years she worked as the Financial Reporting Accountant for a large food manufacturing company in the UK, preparing monthly financial statements, annual statutory consolidated accounts, and tax and VAT returns.
Ziporah joined EDI Global in September 2023 as a Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Consultant and holds a Master of Health Science from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, an Executive Master of Business Administration from the United States International University-Africa, Kenya. She brings 11 years of progressive experience in MEL of primarily health development programs. Ziporah’s experience includes evaluation of education and agriculture programs. Ziporah previously worked as a MEL consultant at IFRC and Genesis Analytics, where she supported strategic data generation and use. Prior to that, Ziporah held the position of MEL Advisor at Breakthrough ACTION Kenya – USAID’s flagship SBC project implemented by JHU Center for Communication Programs- where she designed and implemented the MEL system and the Kenya Malaria Behavioural Survey. Ziporah joins EDI Global with experience working across several countries in Africa and Pakistan, and extensive collaboration experience with UK and US based academic institutions.
